Anywho, this is a picture series I've taken that I've titled "Two of a Kind." Whenever I see my kittens posing the same way, I take a picture. Now, this is a common thing for photographers, but pardon the quality, as I took every single one of those pictures with my fancy pants 2.0 megapixel LG EnV2 phone. Lol.

Hey, Laura here on Matt's login, simply because I'm too lazy to log out and back in again.

Long, yet busy, weekend.
So last weekend started on Wednesday. A long weekend is always nice, but it also usually means I'm not working much, as is the case. Anyway, to start, we had a birthday party, a funeral, and an ordination to go to this weekend, not to mention a list of other things!
Which we only completed about half the stuff on our list.
We managed to go shopping! We haven't done that in a while, but it needed to be done. Also, Matt and his parents moved last weekend, so there was quite a bit of stuff still left in Matt's old apartment. A lot of which wasn't his. So we went through everything, packed up everything we needed, and will hopefully be moving the stuff into storage.... In May? (Every weekend in April is booked solid!)
Here's the only interesting picture I took: Tim's birthday cake!

Props to PA for the whipped cream "smokestack."

Art Update
I'm currently working on two Christmas gifts.
I'll put pictures of them up after Christmas.
Oh, yes. The anticipation builds.

Neverending
I have TONS of homework! It's so backed up.. It might possibly have a little to do with procrastination... But there really is just barely enough time to pull it all off :(.
Matt and I will have a short visit this weekend (which is different from the past month and a half how??) but we've got some plans involving pumpkins and steak....
Also, I REALLY want to do just a pencil sketch soon, but my goodness I have no time! Hopefully I'll have one within 2 weeks.

Extraordinary
"Some of the most ordinary days for some people, ends up being an extraordinary day for others."
Etch a Sketch is taking a break. I'm still going to post my pictures, but I'm not going to hold myself to a timeline, I just don't have enough time in the week. I'm happy with the way the whole thing went though, I did like 10 straight pictures, which is more than I've ever done in that short of a time, and it has done it's purpose, which was to get me to draw more, and I plan on drawing/painting at least another 3 pictures before the end of this year, so I promise you'll still have something to look at! This blog is pretty boring without it! :-p
I feel a need to say something profound right now.... But nothing is coming to mind, so you'll have to live with the quote at the beginning of the post!

Done!
Not too, bad. Sorry it's a couple days late. I had some major reworking to do. As it is, the eyes are still a little too high (and perhaps a little too big), the edges are a little rough, and my blending could use some work.
This is a shot of it with light behind it (it's also backwards). Everywhere that the sun can't really shine through has taken 2+ layers of paint. I'd go as far as to say some portions of the painting have 5+ layers of paint. Check out how dark the lips are, which I have redone probably 4 times. The eyes, too.

Etch a Sketch Thursday: Week 16
AHA!
You thought I forgot all about it....
Well, there was the Bekah Picture on Thurs 9/11
I did a cake the next week (it was artistic, it counts!)
And, remember, it takes 2 weeks for a painting!!
*crickets*
Ok, so maybe it's not done, but once I finished I just HAD to fix all it's quirks. It should be done tomorrow. Here's a preview:

Etch a Sketch Thursday: Week 14
Hey all
So I don't have a picture, but I'm going to consider the cake made on Tuesday as todays Etch a Sketch :).
What happens is I have homework, but I don't want to do the homework, and I still have time before it's due, but I feel weird working on a picture when I know I should be working on homework.

Cake/ Etch a Sketch [Tuesday]: Week 14
So first I found the blog "Cake Wrecks." This blog led me to the Cakelava blog. From there I was inspired to watch "Amazing Wedding Cakes." Today I got the urge to make a cake. It definitely has it's quirks, and had it been a professional cake, you would have probably seen it on Cake Wrecks. Luckily, this was my first time making anything but a homemade looking cake, and it was my first time making and using fondant. I think it came out nicely for a first try. Yes, the fondant is a little lumpy (and lopsided), there is a tear in the fondant that one of the butterflies is mostly covering, and yeah. I have yet to taste it. I know it looks boringly white, but I forgot to add color to the butterflies before I cut them [blush]

Etch a Sketch Thursday: Week 13
Okay. I did a little more on the painting, but got an itching to sketch a portrait midweek. Hence Bekah! Her hair is really messed up, but it's really hard 'cause it's curly, I guess? I dunno. I fail. Umm... Yeah, I forgot what I was going to say in this post. I'll be working some more on the painting, and maybe that's what you'll get next week, but maybe I will post a sketch again and just work a little on the painting. Painting really is a lot of work, especially since I often have to wait for the paint to dry, or it mixes all together! Frustrating!I really had something else I was going to talk about, but I forgot. I have some upcoming plans that Matt doesn't know about, so I'll run them by Matt tonight and see what happens :).
Oh, I helped my dad and brother cut down a tree. Not really, they cut it down, I just helped move brush out of the way. Funny, it took 50 years to grow it and 5 hours to tear it down and apart. Still needs to be split though.

Blogging
I felt the extreme need to blog, yet with nothing specific to blog about.
I have pictures from Matt's birthday, although I haven't uploaded them, due to sheer laziness.
I'm working on a sketch. I'm halfway through a painting, and a sketch, and plan on starting another sketch immediately after I finish the one I'm working on, and it's coming out beautifully!
My back has been hurting me for the past two days. Perhaps it's sleeping on a couch for 6/7 days in one week and 6+ hours in a car in the course of three days... But it's more of a sharp pain than an achey feeling so I'm suspecting I pulled something. Consequently, working (which requires a lot of bending and lifting) I've been using my legs more because my back hurts, and now my legs are sore!
Ooh kay... The Locator premieres tonight! I'm pretty excited. I've seen a couple commercials and it looks like it's going to be pretty cool.

Etch a Sketch Thursday: Week 12
Okay, so let me be brutally honest.
School has started. Work is picking up. I'm budgeting my time very strictly.
I'm trying very hard to do a picture a week, but I didn't realize how much time painting took until I did these last two pictures.
The eye didn't take so long mostly because it was a very small portion of a face and had very little detail, but I'm starting to paint faces now, and I'm going to switch to two weeks for paintings. If I do a sketch, I will do one a week (and I do plan on doing more pencil sketches) but If I do a painting, plan on me skipping a week, although I will still update on Thursday :)
OK:
So I'm about halfway done with a painting of Alyssa Milano. I've done her hair, which actually takes up half of the picture! It's coming out ok, and I really hope it has a good result, because this picture could determine how motivated I am to paint more portraits in the future, and I really want to be able to add color to my portraits (I'm also going to try colored pencil sometime in the future.)
Thanks for understanding!
And if you don't, well. Phooie. I'm tryin.

Etch a Sketch Thursday: Week 10

Alright, I know I missed week 9, and you all better be happy blog readers because I stayed up like an hour past when I wanted to in order to finish this picture on Thursday!
I'm never doing citrus again. It was a pain in the butt, and bottom line, I didn't enjoy doing it. Maybe that's why it took me two weeks, and I just basically improvised and made messy lines and it's definitely not quality work. The droplets were fine though, I think I might experiment more with water in the future.
Enjoy, and be expecting 2 pictures in the near future!

Etch a Sketch... When?!
Hey,
I started a picture with every intention of getting it done by Thursday, but basically work and school and the paint wasn't working the way I wanted to . I started a new one, but it's still nowhere near finished, so I'm skipping this week. Sorry, all!

Etch a Sketch Thursday: Week 8

My first painting (acrylic)! I have to say, I think it came out better than my pastel picture. The original was completely black and white except for the iris, which is why the skin looks so gray (I was hoping it would look like it was meant to be black and white, but I'm not so sure.) The blue colored area was very hard and I'm not satisfied with the detail... I think blue is one of the harder colors to manipulate with paint. I may try a full facial painting in black and white for next week!

Etch a Sketch Thursday: Week 7

Alright, so this image isn't quite as finished off as I would have liked, but hey, I had to do it last week considering I'm at soulfest right now. It's not as realistic as it could be, I did it with pastels (only my second try, and my first one was a horrible disaster.) I would like to put a background color in it also (notice that I haven't signed it yet, so it isn't completely finished.) Oh, and just in case you have no idea what this is a picture of but are too nice to ask me, you can see the original here.
